Greeting Royalty
If you are in Los Angeles from July 8-10 and happen to get a last minute invite to a polo match or posh party you may have occasion to bump into the new Duke and Dutchess of Cambridge who are visiting the U.S., for the first time as husband and wife, after their tour of Canada. In case you do find yourself lacking in How to Greet Royalty protocol here are a few tips. When you meet them there is no need to bow, you should address him as "Your Royal Highness" after that you can just call him "Sir" same for Kate "Your Royal Highness" then address her as Ma'am. Shake his hand as you would anyone else but just wait for him to extend his hand first, other physical contact would be inappropriate, no affected cheek to cheek kissing or fist pounds. This should get you through the first moments of meeting royalty. After that it's just any other polite cocktail party conversation.
